A car just when you need it – why is it worthwhile for a business to move from ownership to consumption?

Avis has launched a new mobility solution, Avis Business. It is a service for business customers that allows companies to combine different modes of transport. Hire a car for half an hour, a day or several years – it’s all now conveniently available in one app!

Fixed vs variable costs

Cost management is crucial for businesses. “Leasing is a fixed cost, but vehicle sharing and rental is a variable cost. The fewer fixed costs, the more flexibility a company has to manage its cash flow,” says Hardi Isok, head of Avis, explaining why it is worthwhile for companies to move away from car ownership towards car rental.

However, in order to meet all the mobility needs of a company, it is not enough to have just one rental service, you need different mobility options that can be combined. One week you need to go to a few business meetings, but the next you need a means of daily mobility. That’s what MyAvis was created to provide for business customers!

The idea started three years ago, when the Avis e-mobility team went around Estonia testing different segments. “At that time, we didn’t know what e-mobility meant exactly, but we felt that the field appealed to us and we wanted to find our own expression in it,” recalls Isok. “We came up with the idea of creating an app where you could rent a car for a day, a week or even several years.”

One contract, multiple services

According to Isoki, people are reluctant to give up their private or company car because they fear that a rental car will not be available when they need it. With MyAvis, however, you can put that worry behind you. With the app’s convenient booking system, you can plan your journeys up to a week in advance – so you can be sure you’ll always have a well-maintained, clean car waiting for you when you go to a business meeting.

“We sign an Avis Business contract with the client and create an account for the company in the app. They can then use all the Avis services in one contract and pay later with an invoice; short and long term car rental, motorhome rental, full service leasing and Avis Now. So you can rent a car for half an hour up to five years,” says Isok.

One of MyAvis’ key focuses is to be as close to the customer as possible. “This means that the customer doesn’t come to us, but we go to them,” says the Avis manager, explaining that a car booked by a customer is waiting for them in the car park of a commercial building at the time booked.

However, you can also use an Avis rental car without a reservation. “You can see on the app’s map if there is a car available somewhere near a commercial building. At the moment, our cars are parked in the parking lots of Avala and Tammsaare office buildings. More partners will be added in the near future,” says Isok, adding that the rental car must always be returned to the same place where it was picked up.

You can also set up smaller groups within your company, where you can charge a monthly fee for cars that are always parked next to your office building and can only be seen and used by certain people. “And we’ll make sure they’re always maintained and in good condition,” says Isok.

Good to know! Avis Business services can also be used as a private customer – in this case, you must pay by credit card.

Needs-based car use

Isok believes that in the near future, companies will start to use different modes of transport across the board and that there will be many opportunities to do so in the market. “MyAvis will provide companies with flexibility and the possibility to combine different rental services,” he adds. “A vehicle hired for a longer period can also be shared with colleagues – which can help a company cut costs dramatically.”

“International studies have shown that one shared car covers up to nine cars,” says Isok, citing another reason why renting is preferable to owning a car. “There are more and more cars on our roads and we need to think about how to save resources and make our journeys as economically as possible.”
